Why should I participate in the Program?

Program participation benefits the exchanged teachers as follows:

  • Professional skills sharpened

  • Multicultural awareness, knowledge and skills increased

  • International network broadened

  • J-1 visa sponsorship (for up to 03 years) for full-time paid teaching position

  • J-2 dependent sponsorship for spouse and children to join J-1 teacher, J-2 children are eligible to study at K-12 schools without tuition fee required

  • Option to request extension for an additional 02 years

  • A salary comparable to what an American teacher with the same qualifications would receive (US$ 40,000 per year on average)

What & How long

What is J-1Teacher Exchange Program? How long is the Program?

The Exchange Visitor Program promotes mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries by educational and cultural exchanges. Foreign teachers have the opportunity to teach in K-12 schools in the United States.  

The exchanged teachers can teach in the US for up to three years. Option to request extension for an additional two years is available.

Eligibility

Am I eligible to apply for the Program?

If you satisfy all of the following requirements, do not hesitate to apply for the Program

  • Non-US citizen;

  • Minimum two years of full-time of teaching or related professional experience;

  • Meets the qualifications for teaching in primary or secondary schools in his or her country of nationality or last legal residence;

  • Have a degree equivalent to a US bachelor’s degree in either education or the academic subject in which they intend to teach, and

  • Possess sufficient English proficiency

ProPath is working with Global Indiana, the official administrator of the Exchange Visitor Program to assist exchange teachers with the whole process, from application to transition into their new journey in the USA. The teaching positions are available in both public and private schools across America.
