Why should I participate in the Program?

Program participation benefits the exchanged student as follows:

  • Free tuition fee and covered living expenses for J-1exchanged student)

  • Studying at an accredited public or private high school and live with an American host family or at an accredited boarding school in the United States.

What & How long

What is J-1Secondary Student Exchange Program? How long is the Program?

The Exchange Visitor Program promotes mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries by educational and cultural exchanges. Foreign secondary students have the opportunity to study at an accredited public or private high school and live with an American host family or at an accredited boarding school in the United States.  

The exchanged students can study in the US for up to one year. After J-1 high school program, students can apply for F-1 student visa in order to continue the study plan in the United States.

Eligibility

Am I eligible to apply for the Program?

If you satisfy all of the following requirements, do not hesitate to apply for the Program:

  • Non-US citizen;

  • Be at least 15 years of age, but not more than 18 years and six months of age as of the program start date;

  • Not have previously participated in a secondary school student academic year or semester exchange program or attended school in the United States in either F-1 or J-1 status

ProPath's Role

How does ProPath help?

ProPath is working with CETUSA, the official administrator of the Exchange Visitor Program to assist exchange teachers with the whole process, from application to transition into their new journey in the USA.

 

The following services are provided by ProPath to the applicants:

​Getting ready

  • Initial screening of resume, transcripts, essay and cover letter

  • Initial interview with ProPath to evaluate the applicant’s academic ability and English proficiency

Supervision & Guidance

  • Supervision and guidance for application process

  • Assistance on school placement procedures

Coaching & Assisting

  • Coaching for final interview with the host school

  • Assistance with J-1 visa application

  • Coaching for J-1 visa interview

Pre-departure & Post-arrival

  • Pre-departure orientation 

  • Coordination of airport pick-up and settlement to ensure that the exchange teachers have a smooth transition in the US

  • ​Student care during J-1 exchange program
